Double the icons! Billy Joel, Stevie Nicks will bring piano and gold dust to SoFi’s 5,000-seat outdoor festival
The 5,000-capacity outdoor festival will feature a variety of musical performances including a salute to the past two decades of the rock ’n’ roll singer, singer-songwriter and rock legend, who died this week at the age of 74.
“This is a big moment in the history of our festival,” says SoFi’s executive director and co-owner Michael Morpurgo. “We have a tremendous history with Billy and all those artists who have performed on our stages in the past, but we have never held an outdoor concert on a Saturday night.”
In addition to performing, he is also planning to honor the past two decades of the influential musician, who grew up in Pennsylvania and was raised in New York City.
The SoFi 5 is scheduled for July 23 and 24.
Morpurgo says he plans to include local artists and bands with some history and legendary artists as part of the lineup.
“We are very excited about the SoFi 5,” he says. “It looks to be an incredible family affair and we are thrilled to be able to bring all of this to the city.”
The SoFi 5 also will feature an “exclusive music video screening” with the band Steely Dan, which is a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
