Serena Williams: I was wearing a pink tutu, and I got this call from my mom...

CNN interviewed Serena Williams when she was 9. Here’s what she said:

Serena Williams: I was wearing a blue tutu, and I got this call from my mom. She was crying… and said, “Serena, I went to the store and I couldn’t find anything that fit you.” She said, “I think we’re going to have to call Grandma and Grandpa.” I was at the mall with my mom, and all the other moms were there with their kids. So, I went into the dressing room and I was getting dressed, and my mom comes in and she said, “I don’t think I can buy anything for you,” and I looked at her like, “Really?” She said, “I don’t want to see you anymore.” So, I went downstairs to my parents’ room, put on my pajamas and I was crying. The next day, I went to school. I was wearing the pink tutu, and they asked me, “What do you do?” I said, “I’m a tennis player.” They said, “What do you play?” And then I remember taking one step back, and it was like, I turned around and my mom was standing in the doorway. She said, “We don’t like to see you dressed like that.” And I said, “I’m sorry. I want to play, and that’s why I’m dressed like this.”

She got dressed and she gave me a hug, and I felt myself breaking down. And she took me to the mall and she bought me this blue tutu.

What was Serena doing in a pink tutu? Did she go to a sleep aid store?
