The operator of Costa Mesa’s Transit Services LLC said it was forced to stop buses Tuesday after a strike by bus workers at the company’s Costa Mesa Transit Center.

Transit Services owns the Costa Mesa Transit Center, which operates 24 buses that link the area’s residential neighborhoods with the San Diego, Orange County, Riverside and San Bernardino transit systems.

Transit Services did not say who made the decision to stop the buses, but said it was made by a member of its technical division.

“We were looking for a solution. There wasn’t a solution,” said Costa Mesa Transit Manager David Johnson. “After discussion with the workers, we decided this is the best option.”

Johnson said the move left customers in a difficult position.

“As of right now, we don’t know what the service will be like,” he said. “We want to do everything we can to get them access to the information they need.”

The company said it did not ask or authorize any of the drivers who stopped their buses, and it was not aware of any dispute between the drivers and Transit Services.

At least a dozen buses will remain in service for the day, with others being sent to other bus stops in the area, Johnson said.

“If you look at the list and you see that three or four buses are not going to be running, I think that means there’s an issue, which is what we want the public to know,” he said.
