Serbian scientists have named a new species of beetle after Novak Djokovic of tennis.
Djokovic, who is ranked number one in tennis, is in Serbia every year as part of the Davis Cup and Olympic teams.

“We named this one after him because he is truly a world champion tennis player who has always given his best to his sport. He has set the highest benchmark in our sport in the past and we are truly proud to have named a new species after him,” said Branka Peje from the University of Belgrade.

“The beetle has been found in Serbia for the first time, and it has been named after Novak Djokovic, a world-class tennis player. We have found eight species of beetles in Serbia so far, and this is a new discovery, said Branka Peje from Pusara.
“Serbian scientists are the first to bring this kind of beetle to Serbia. Many scientists are still working on it and they are currently working on other species. They are the first to bring this kind of beetle to Serbia, and it’s worth mentioning that another beetle they found has been named after Novak Djokovic, as well,” she added.

“This beetle is found in the pine forests and it can be found in places where there aren’t any human settlements, so I think it’s more amazing that scientists are naming one of the most famous tennis players for a beetle,” said Branka Peje.
“I’m very happy for the scientists who took the initiative to name this beetle after one of the most famous people in the world and one of the best tennis players. They really deserve all these nice things for naming them these beetles,” she added.
